Late night comics were quick to pounce on the debate between President Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney, but Jimmy Fallon takes the cake with his skit. But he took shots instead at moderator Jim Lehrer.
Both candidates probably had issues with the debate moderator, who was widely panned for the thankless job of trying to rein in two superegos.
But in the end, Lehrer, who hosts the national news on PBS, just did a lousy job. No wonder Romney wants to cut government subsidies for the network.
Fallon played Romney and his head writer A.D. Miles played Lehrer, although the young whipper snapper hardly looked the part. Both candidates would have done just as well without him trying to interfere and Fallon makes that clear.
He grows increasingly impatient with Lehrer?s interruptions. ?I think it just a little weird that you?re here,? he says as Mitt. ?So, you can just leave and do whatever you want.?
When Lehrer lodges a respectful protest, Mitt gets to the point. ?Now, Jim I?m going to have to ask you to step back.?
Finally Mitt just told him, ?Jim, just shut the f*ck up.?
