Scores of new wedding photographers are marketing online with websites and directories. This makes it difficult to stand out and get ahead of the competition. With a constant increase in competition vying for the same customer base, the market gets a bit over crowded. Everyone can just lower their prices to be point you aren't making money, but there has to be another way. There isn't a point of running a business if you cannot make money in doing so.

Now days, everything has become web-based and the internet is vital to your company success. Each day, people are using their phones and PCs for shopping, marketing and hiring. The educated customers research companies before hiring by seeking out reviews and available information. Perhaps it is your website that draws in the customer or an ad on some business directory. So in essence, if your clients can't find you on the web, you are basically invisible.

Google is the major search engine everyone knows about and if you're not listed there, then you're missing out on a large portion of the market. Bing and Google rule the internet and without optimization, you will not rank visible enough for clients to find you. Next, we will discuss some ways to increase your web presence and your client base.

1. Meta Page Titles: Your page title could determine the keyword ranking of your site on its own. Search engines read this as the top basis on what you do. So placing a keyword like Detroit Photographer at the start should rank you very well. Don't forget to add the company name as well. For example, if your business is called Perry Mason Photography and you're based in Chicago, Illinois, then your title page should look like this "Chicago photographer - Perry mason Photography". Using keywords, company name and location in your title will make your company easy to find in your base city and primary keyword in the title. Search engines use bots to reads website content and they rate page titles very high. This may be the most important area of your website optimization.

2. Optimizing the homepage with relevant content and SEO friendly keywords. Using keywords as titles or in the content is great for search engine bot crawling, just don't spam them. We call that keyword stuffing and can actually hurt your rankings. The homepage should be filled with simple and basic information, plus marketing phrases. Who are you? Where are you located? What services do you provide? How do we contact you? Answer those questions on the homepage and make sure the contact information is placed multiple times on the page.

3. Consider the format code used to design the site. Perhaps you hired a professional website designer to build the site or you crafted it yourself using an affordable builder. But you still need to know what type of code is being used to create your website. A homepage designed in HTML can easily be crawled by the search engines, but flash sites are much harder. Can you SEO a flash site to the 1st page on Google? Sure, but it will take 3 times the work to do so. The newest HTML5 format is the best code in my opinion for a SEO friendly website. It is basically designed to work with the search engines.

4. Use social media like Facebook. Posting status updates, gaining likes and adding pictures on social media are great SEO boosters to your website. SEO programs actually score every like on Facebook. Sites like Twitter and Facebook are also high page ranking sites that are become valuable backlinks.

5. Link building is the core to SEO and can be a long process. This includes using blogs, directories, affiliate sites, social media, article writing, press releases and guest blogging. Or you can try the expensive way of hiring an SEO firm. Links are great, but make sure they are quality links. Pop ups and low quality links could look get your site flagged by Google and get penalized. Everything you do to improve your ranking must look natural or risk looking like internet spam.

SEO rankings are based off of several factors that change regularly. Companies like Google change their system often and don't inform anyone on exactly what they did. Finding true experts who know everything in this field are basically impossible. Right out of college and think you are up to date, only to find out a series of new updates just changed everything. So keep up on the research and be consistent on the work. In time, the website rankings will climb and the traffic will too.
