We first heard that Apple could be hard at work on developing a ?slate? version of its popular iPhone, at the end of August. The speculation surrounding the device?s development was fuelled by a set of photos, (originally shared by Sonny Dickson).
Following on from this report, Ctech.cn (via 9to5Mac) shares yet another photo of the purported device, which would (initially) appear to have little difference to the iPhone 5. While we can?t vouch for the authenticity of the photo which follows showing Apple?s upcoming ?slate?-coloured iPhone, we?re inclined to believe that the photo does show an iPhone model of a differing colour, rather than simply being the iPhone 5 wrapped in plastic.
Granted, it is becoming increasingly easier to ?fake? photos like this. What makes us think that the above photo could be legitimate, though, is this video originally shared by CrackUriDevice.
As you can probably see from the following snapshot, the video clearly depicts that the (rumoured) casing for the iPhone model has a significantly different coloured ?tint? on its rear plate, which differs from the tint used for Apple?s current-generation iPhone 5.
One other interesting detail of the purported casing for the device, is the use of the official ?China Compulsory Certification? mark. Usually only added to products which are ready for market, the registration mark is made up of the letters ?CCC,? and according to export.gov:
?The CCC safety license requirement by the government of China requires manufacturers to obtain the China Compulsory Certification (CCC) mark before exporting to or selling products covered in the CCC catalogue in the [Chinese] market.?
The use of the mark on the product could suggest that Apple?s slate iPhone may only be available to those in China, once the product is officially announced (and launched) by the company. The other possibility is that Apple?s (rumored) slate iPhone may be available to those in other world territories, and what we?re seeing here is just the version of the upcoming handset made for the Chinese market.
Either way, Apple is currently expected to unveil its next line-up of iPhone products at its (now confirmed) September 10 media event, set to be held at the company?s Cupertino headquarters located in the state of California, this Tuesday.
We?ll be reporting live from the event from 9:30AM (PT), on Tuesday.
